About

Aloha!  My name is Cory Chun and I’m running to continue representing District 35 in the Hawaiʻi State House of Representatives.  Public service is truly a privilege, and I am honored to represent you as we navigate the challenges facing our state.

I believe Hawaiʻi is a special place, and I want to ensure that we can all live, work, and enjoy this place we call home.

I started my career advocating for and representing people with disabilities who faced discrimination and a lack of equal access.  Learning about the challenges that the disability community faces every day made me appreciate the responsibility to look out and help those in need.  This experience grounded my desire to pursue service to others.

I spent the majority of my professional career with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network.  As an advocate, I wanted to guarantee cancer treatment was accessible to all–not only those fortunate enough to afford healthcare costs.  My role focused on ensuring cancer patients and their families had a voice and were heard.  Sadly, cancer continues to be a significant health crisis, and too many loved ones succumb to this deadly disease.

COVID-19 came and changed everything.  Job security and economic stability became scarce.  Like many others, COVID severely affected my workplace and caused me to make a tough decision to leave an organization I loved.  I was fortunate to join the team at the Honolulu City Council, working on policy initiatives and community issues.

With my heart focused on public service, I ran for the Waipahū Neighborhood Board in 2007, and it has been an honor to serve to this day.  In 2021, the members appointed me as Chair of the board after serving as vice-chair for several years.

In 2022, I was fortunate to be elected to my first term in the House of Representatives. During that time, I served as Vice Chair of the Committee on Corrections, Military, and Veterans, a member of the House Water and Land and Finance Committees, and as the co-convener of the Legislative Kūpuna Caucus.

“Public service has been my life, and I'd be honored to continue working hard for you!”
